Terrorist Threats

Biblical View

Terrorism is using violent force, or the fear of it, to control a person in some way. It's the exact opposite of how God does things. God so loved the world that He gave His only son--Jesus--to die for us, taking our sin upon Him, so whoever believes in Him would have eternal life. (John 3:16). God draws us by His love. He gave us a free will. He wants us to choose Him and His ways because we want to. Terrorists use fear and force. Terrorism is a type of bullying, and it takes a heart-change to stop a bully. (And there are some former terrorists have repented and found the Way into the kingdom of God!)

Throughout the Bible, we see the concept of free will. From the beginning when God put the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the garden, told them not to eat of it, and what the consequence would be if they chose to, all the way to the end when Jesus tells us to preach the Gospel to people so they can choose to believe in Him (Genesis 2:17, Joshua 24:15, James 4:8, Mark 16:16). God does not force a person to believe in Him or obey Him. He warns, He guides, He teaches, but He placed us here to choose who we will follow and serve. He will not compromise His integrity and take away our free will.

God is well aware of the horrors of terrorism. Yet, He is honored when His people remain loyal to Him and His ways at all costs (Matthew 5:11-12). Remember, wicked people will be judged one day for what they do. If it looks like they are flourishing, its only so that God is justified in bringing the judgment that needs to be brought.

"That when the wicked sprouted up like grass And all who did iniquity flourished, It was only that they might be destroyed forevermore." Psalm 92:7

Even though we need to be aware of threats, and protect the innocent among us, let's remember that God desires to display His signs, wonders and miracles through His people.  Seek Him for your part in that!
